Science Labs by Ms. Lerenman

Nothing makes science come alive like labs, model-making, and experiments. KEY 7th graders partake in various labs above, with their weekly volunteers Mr. Stern and Ms. Strickland. Mr. Stern and Ms. Strickland love seeing students really be able to get it and apply their knowledge through these hands on activities. The volunteers are amazed with the level of cooperation and caring that students show to one another, making sure that each person in the group gets a chance to participate and engage. The volunteers lend an aspect of social capital but they also get to be impressed with the level of cultural capital that the students have acquired from their various field trips and higher-order thinking classes.

Missing by A'lAsia and Akhir

Just incase you didn't know human trafficking is: kidnapping underaged children, or adults for prostitution and degrading them. The "pimps" take the children to different locations all over the world. Human trafficking is a sick "game"....as far as you know, your father could be participating in such degrading, disgusting acts with a child the same age as his own daughter. Doctors do it, policeman do it, your dentist does it.......It's wrong yet people still do it. I think the people who do it are sick, and maybe they are so depressed that they can't find someone of their own age. That they go as far as taking the innocents of children and using them for their own SICK needs and pleasures. Although, it may not always be for that, it may be that they feel powerful. That somehow, in their head, they think they have control over the situation. In someways this is true, but it is also (once again) sickening. How can someone live with themselves, knowing that they have harmed a child to the point where they are mentally and physically disabled? They do this all over the world, and the reason why we have suddenly decided to speak up about this disgusting subject is because the movies they broadcast that give awareness to people to keep their children close. And I one-hundred percent agree that it is important to keep your child by your side in public places.

High Schools by Markerra and Senoah

Choices, choices, choices. As eigth graders, we are faced with so many choices about where to attend high school. Here are some major factors that are going to affect our decisions: if our friends go to the same school that we go to, if we have to wear uniforms, if we have freedom or not, do we have to raise our hands to go to the bathroom, what time we get out, attendance time, location of school, challenges of work. Our obstacles help us achieve our goals because it helps us to do better in college and in life.

Violence by Andrew, Oshe, and Darren

Black on black crime needs to stop. Well really, all crime needs to stop. It just isn't right. Why do people commit these crimes? I think they're not thinking about the future. If they knew about the consequences ahead, half of the crimes wouldn't be commited. That's why a lot of people need to be taught about these consequences.

The reason many people commit crimes is because they have nothing else to do but kill others to make themselves happy and others miserable. So what is your input about crimes?

Crimes are an abomination to this country's pride. The fact that people kill their own kind is sickening. Innocent people are being hurt just because someone has a gun in their pocket and feels like it.

Homeless People by Imani and Porshia

Everyday we see homeless people, begging for money, selling newspapers, or trying to find something out of the trash...We wonder how they became like this...???
Now look at this guy,did he lose his job or house or is he just to lazy to find a J O B? This little bench in the park is his home....Some people don't realize how hard it is for these people who don't have a roof over their head or who don't even have a comfortable sofa to sit on.Don't underestimate people's circumstances..

Finishing first in the Girls on the Run 5K by Amani

On Sunday December 7th 2008 I ran a 5k which is a 3.1 mile run. My partner Ms. Carly ran with me during the race. I struggled a little because the wind was blowing in my face and I couldn't breathe. My partner encouraged me to keep running and I knew I couldn't let my partner down so I pushed threw it and before I knew it I crossed the finished line. I was so happy because I knew I accomplished a great goal in my life. This wasn't the goal I set but I guess there is a lot of goals in life you just have to know what they are. I'm so proud of myself!!!
